Bright n’ Beautiful Announces 2024-25 Yellowstone County Christmas Tree Recycling
Eleven convenient drop-off locations in Billings, Laurel, Lockwood, Huntley and Shepherd
The Yellowstone County Christmas Tree Recycling Program will kick off on Friday, December 27, and will continue through Sunday, January 19, 2025.
We all love a natural Christmas tree. There’s something magical about the tradition of bringing that tree indoors, decorating it with memories and basking in its glow and sweet scent throughout the holidays. Returning your tree to nature afterwards is also kind of magical. Imagine your tree living on as useful evergreen mulch, enriching places where our kids play and learn about animals, birds, and trees. What a great thing to do at the start of a new year! Bright n’ Beautiful, the Keep America Beautiful affiliate serving Yellowstone County, is proud to coordinate this festive community effort each year in partnership with the City of Billings, the County of Yellowstone, and the City of Laurel. We are also blessed with the generous help of community partners, Republic Services, Zoo Montana, and Rocky Mountain Compost, and our good neighbors, Radius Recycling (Schnitzer’s), Hanser’s Automotive, Lockwood School, Shepherd High School, and Huntley United Methodist Church as they graciously host drop-off containers year after year.
Believe it or not, we processed over 5,000 trees all together last winter, thanks to all who went to the trouble of donating your trees. So, when the time comes to let go please remove all decorations and bring your tree to one of these drop-offs:

Thanks again to Billings Public Works Solid Waste for placing and hauling containers in Billings, and to Republic Services for generously donating their containers and hauling services in Lockwood, Huntley, and Shepherd. (We couldn’t do it without you!) The trees will be transported to Rocky Mountain Compost for grinding and branches and mulch will go on to enhance playgrounds, animal habitat, and trails at Zoo Montana, Montana Audubon Center and other worthy organizations. (Need some mulch for your non-profit? Let us know!) Remember to remove decorations, lights, and wrapping before dropping off and PLEASE, no other objects besides Christmas trees in those containers! Thank you very ‘mulch’!
A bright and beautiful Christmas and a tree-mendous 2025 to all!
